Junior Kathleen Luft was named WCC Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Luft helped the LMU volleyball team to a 2-0 record last week, including a victory over then-No. 24 Pepperdine in WCC play. For Luft, the weekly selection is her first of the year, but she was named Co-WCC Player of the Month for the month of September.
In addition to the victory over the Waves, LMU posted a win over Big West Conference opponent Cal State Northridge. Luft began her week by leading all players with a career-best 24 kills while hitting .367 in a four-set victory over the Waves on Thursday. The native of Thousand Oaks, Calif. then managed a match-high 17 kills against the Matadors on Saturday. Overall on the week, she posted 41 kills (4.56 per set) while hitting .330. Luft was also strong on the block against Pepperdine, managing a block solo and five assists en route to averaging .67 blocks per set for the week.
LMU will return to action on Thursday when it travels to Santa Clara for a crucial WCC match.
