LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount volleyball and Head Coach Steve Stratos announced the signing of standout volleyball player Alyse Hensley earlier this week. Hensley, a 6'3 left-handed opposite from Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lions in the fall for the 2010 season.

"We as a coaching staff and team are very excited about signing and bringing Alyse into our program," Stratos said. "We feel that she has the ability and the tools to come into the program and compete for time on the floor right away."

Hensley, who has guided her team to four victories already in the 2009 playoffs, helped her team reach the California Interscholastic Federation State Tournament in 2008. Named All-North Coast Section in 2007, she also competed in tennis and basketball in high school. Excelling on and off the court, Hensley was an All-Academic selection in 2009. On the club side, she has competed for the Empire Volleyball Club, Coast Volleyball and Northern California High Performance teams. "Alyse has many qualities that a lot of opposites do not possess," Stratos said. "Her size is a definite factor and asset, while she has been a setter previously in her career, giving her great hands and an ability to handle the ball well. She has tremendous ball control and can play all the way around, even passing through the back row, which, in addition, then allows her to be a threat to hit out of the back row."

Hensley, who was also recruited by the University of Oregon, UC Irvine, St. Mary's, San Francisco, Northern Colorado and Rutgers, is expected to fit perfectly into the LMU program when she arrives in 2010. "We have a very young and talented team," Stratos explains. "Alyse is our only scholarship player entering in 2010, and she will give us depth at the opposite position. Because she is an individual with a knack for the game, and a player who can do many things for us on the court, I can see her battling for a starting spot immediately as a freshman."

The 2009 Lions continue their season on Thursday when they travel to San Francisco, Calif. to battle USF at 7 p.m.
