Sweet 16s Highlight of 11th Annual Iggys

A pair of trips to the NCAA Sweet 16 was the highlight of the 2016 Lions Athletic Fund Iggy Awards on Wednesday, April 28th at the DoubleTree LA Westside. Women's volleyball and women's soccer, who had historic runs in the their respective NCAA tournaments, were part of the many honors recognized at the 11th Annual Iggy Awards.

Defense has ruled the last three match-ups between water polo rivals San Diego State and LMU, including the Lions claiming the 2015 Golden Coast Conference Championship a year ago. This time it was San Diego State’s turn in their own pool.

Defense Does it Again at GCC Tourney

LMU women’s water polo once again called on their defense in the Golden Coast Conference Championships, this time holding Santa Clara to just one goal in the second half to lift them to a 7-5 opening round win to start the 2016 tournament on Friday at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Quest for Three-Peat Begins Friday

LMU women’s water polo will begin their quest for a third straight Golden Coast Conference Tournament Championship on Friday when they face a familiar foe. The Lions will open as the fourth seed and will take on fifth-seeded Santa Clara at 3 pm at San Diego State’s Aztec Aquaplex.

Four Lions Earn Conference Honors

LMU senior Ivana Castro became the first player in the young three-year history of the Golden Coast Conference to earn First-Team All-GCC honors in each of the first three seasons. Castro highlights four Lions to earn postseason conference honors, which was released by the GCC on Tuesday.

Lions Honor Five Seniors Saturday

LMU women’s water polo recognized five seniors playing in their final home game on Saturday at the Burns Aquatics Center. The 20th-ranked Lions would fall to 25th-ranked CSUN, 9-7.
