Romero, who was hired by her former Head Coach Kyle Witt this fall, rejoins the program she helped lead to new levels of success. Romero, who graduated in 2011 with her Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology, was a three-time Western Water Polo Association all-conference selection, earning honorable mention All-American honors in 2009. Romero played two seasons for Witt and her first two seasons with the program's first head coach, John Loughran.
"We are very fortunate to have someone from our program rejoin us on our coaching staff," said Head Coach Kyle Witt. "She understands what it takes to have success at this level and understands the tradition of our program. She was a part of that tradition and was known for her work ethic and team leadership. We are fortunate to have that back in our program as a mentor and leader."
Romero finished her career ranked 13th all-time in LMU history with 126 goals and 12th with 128th steals. She was a work-horse for the Lions, playing in a record 135 career games. She was part of a pair of teams that won WWPA Championships in 2009 and 2010, earning bids to the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championships.
She helped the Lions finish a perfect 13-0 against WWPA foes in 2009, defeating Santa Clara in the WWPA title game, 8-4, to advance to the NCAA tournament. They finished 26-9 overall on the season. In Witt's first season as head coach in 2010, the Lions took it a step further.
Romero and the Lions ran their unbeaten streak against the WWPA to 24 games and defeated UC San Diego to advance to the NCAA tournament in San Diego. The Lions then defeated five-time defending champion and top-ranked UCLA in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals to advance to the national semifinals. They would finish 28-6 overall and ranked fourth in the nation.
Following graduation in May 2011, Romero went to play for the Mexican National Team, playing in the University games. In 2012, she was an assistant coach and the strength and conditioning coach at Montebello High School.
In 2013, she went and played in the Australian league. While in Australia, she also coached and refereed at Newington College. In November of 2013, she returned to her hometown of Commerce and was an assistant coach for the Commerce Aquatics program.
