Coach of the Year Caps Another Title Season

Kyle Witt earns second straight GCC Coach of the Year as Lions cap another conference championship season.

Briefly... Rachel Riddell enters her third season of collegiate water polo... a 2005 honorable mention All-American... spent the 2003-04 season training with the Canadian National Team and played in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece... played in three games and earned the win over the United States, making seven saves... played this summer and this January in the Commonwealth Championships for the Canadian National Team all-time LMU leader with a 4.14 goals against average in her two-year career...

At LMU... 2005... lead team to fifth straight WWPA title and fifth straight trip to NCAA Tournament...was named WWPA Player of the Year as she allowed just seven goals and made 31 saves in 10 quarters of work to lift LMU to the WWPA title... was also a first-team All-WWPA selection... finished the season leading the nation with 333 saves... had 15 games this season with 10 or more saves... set a tournament record with 36 saves in three games at the NCAA Tournament...made 13 saves in the wins over Wagner (5-14-05) and Michigan (5-15-05)... made 17 in 5-4 overtime setback to UC Santa Barbara (4-23-05)... made 14 against Santa Clara and UC Davis in the WWPA tournament... also made 14 in one-goal win against San Jose State (2-27-05)... held teams to four or less goals in 17 games while posting a 4.91 GAA average... 2003... a third-team All-American and a first-team All-WWPA selection... finished season as top goalie in WWPA... in just under 31 games, she made 321 saves and allowed just 122 goals for a goals against average of 3.96... recorded Lions second shutout in school history in WWPA tournament... made 16 saves against Indiana in NCAA consolation game... in first complete game of career, made 14 saves and allowed just three goals in win over 12th-ranked UC Santa Barbara (2/8/03)... set career-high with 17 saves against Princeton (3/19/03) and then equalled it against Arizona State (4/4/04)... had 15 games with 10 or more saves on the season...

High School... Graduated from West Vancouver High School in June of 2002... played water polo at the provincial and national level in Canada... she participated at all levels, from Bantam to Senior... participated in the Pan-Am Games in Venezuela (2000) and Florida (2002)... played in World Games in Australia (2001), the Commonwealth Games (2002, 2006), the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic (2003), the World Championship in Barcelona, Spain (2003), and won the gold medal in the Junior World Championships held in Calgary (2003)... was named the most valuable goalie at several national and international tournaments...

Personal... Rachel Lynn Riddell was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada... she is the daughter of Lauren and Robert Riddell... has two sisters, Jennifer and Abbey... father played three years of hockey for the University of Manitoba... a sociology major with a minor in business.
