Women’s Water Polo Opens Season Against National Powers

LOS ANGELES – The 2018 women’s water polo season is officially underway as Loyola Marymount opened with games against the two teams tied for second in the 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association preseason poll.

Game 1: UCLA 11, LMU 2

LMU opened the day with an 11-2 showing at UCLA. The Lions jumped ahead with the first goal of the year as Hana Vilanova scored fifty seconds into the season to give the Lions a 1-0 lead over the defending National Champions. The Bruins then scored seven-straight before transfer Abbey Grosse scored her first goal of her LMU career just before the third period expired. 

Game 2: USC 18, LMU 0

The second game of the day, against the nation’s other second-ranked team, was a shutout by the Trojans. USC took the game 18-0.

The season continues as the Lions play in the Hawaii Tournament next weekend with games against Hawaii, Marist, and California on Jan. 20-21.
