LA JOLLA, Calif. -- In a rematch of the 2010 Western Water Polo Association title game, the sixth-ranked LMU women's water polo team came away with an impressive 13-7 road win over 17th-ranked UC San Diego at Canyonview Aquatic Center Friday night. The Lions improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in WWPA play.

Kimberly Benedetti and Casey Flacks paced the Lions attack as they scored three goals a piece. Goalie Kristine Cato added 11 saves as the Lions' defense posted a shutout in the fourth quarter.

After dominating the fourth quarter in La Jolla a week earlier at the UCSD Triton Invite, the Lions did it once again, outscoring the Tritons 3-0. LMU has outscored opponents 20-4 in the fourth quarter the last five games.

However, this time the Lions got off to a quick start. LMU jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals from reigning WWPA Player of the Week Erin Manke.

LMU then led 7-3 at the break.

UCSD mounted a comeback, cutting the lead by a pair, 9-7, with 1:57 to play in the third quarter. However, Flacks delivered the back-breaker, scoring at the buzzer to end the fourth to push the cushion back to three. The goal would start a string of four straight by the Lions to end the game.

LMU will play in the 2011 UC Irvine Invitational next weekend at UC Irvine, opening with Long Beach State at 12:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26.
