LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The seventh-ranked LMU women's water polo team used a second half shutout to open play at home with a Western Water Polo Association win, defeating UC San Diego 10-4 at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in WWPA play while UC San Diego falls to 2-9 on the year.

LMU held a 5-4 lead at the break, but used five unanswered goals in the second half and kept the Tritons off the scoreboard to earn the six-goal win. LMU goalie Kristine Cato had seven of her nine saves in the second half while senior Anne Scott led all scorers with four goals.

Scott scored all three of LMU's goals in the third quarter, giving the Lions a two-goal lead with 6:50 to play in the third quarter on a 6-on-5 goal. Just over two minutes later she scored again to give LMU a 7-4 lead. She then scored again with 2:31 to play to extend the lead to four, 8-4.

Hana Gosney and Diana Romero each scored in the fourth quarter for the final margin. LMU had seven players score and went 5-for-10 on the 6-on-5 attack. UCSD went 3-for-10.

LMU will head to the UC Irvine Invitational next weekend, Feb. 27-28.
