Santa Barbara, CA (Feb. 25) - The fifth-ranked Loyola Marymount University women's water polo earned a 5-4 win over 12th-ranked UC Davis in the first day of play in the 2005 Gaucho Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Christine Robinson broke a 4-4 tie in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to lift the Lions to the win. LMU improves to 8-1 on the season and will play Long Beach State at 11:30 a.m. at the Campus Pool at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The 49ers, who are ranked fourth nationally, won Group E play on Friday.

The Lions took an early 1-0 lead on Dora Szabolcsi's first period goal. UC Davis would answer with a pair of goals in the second period and Lindsey O'Farriell sent the game into halftime tied 2-2.

Both teams would score a goal each in the third frame, including a four-meter by Stacia Peterson. In the fourth quarter the Lions took a 4-3 lead on a goal by Jessica Conner. Davis would answer to set-up Robinson's game winner.
