LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 13th-ranked LMU women's water polo team fell to No. 17 UC San Diego, 11-10 at Canyonview Aquatic Center at UC San Diego on Friday night. The Tritons got seven goals from Alexis Wieseler, including her three fourth quarter goals to claim the WWPA win.

Alexandra Honny and Ivana Castro scored three goals each as the Lions fall to 9-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. It is the second straight one-goal setback to the Tritons in La Jolla on the season for the Lions.

The Lions came out fast and took a 3-0 lead on a pair goals from Honny and another by Laura Lopez just three minutes into the game. However, Wieseler scored twice to end the quarter as the Lions led 3-2 after one.

LMU continued to take a two-goal lead just to have UC San Diego answer, including a goal with 1:45 to pla to make it 5-4 in favor of the Lions at the break.

Wieseler would tie the game a minute into the second half just to see Castro give the Lions the lead right back at 6-6.

The Tritons would then score three straight goals, including a pair from Joelene Geliana to take an 8-6 lead. Castro and Danielle Johnson would score back-to-back goals, Castro's with 29 seconds left in the third quarter, to tie the game with 6:27 to play in the fourth quarter.

Wieseler would give the Tritons the lead with 3:44 to play just to have Jessica Morelos to tie it with 3:17 on the next possession.

With 2:35 to play, Wieseler would give the Tritons the lead at 10-9 and then 40 seconds later delivered the knock-out punch, giving UCSD an 11-9 lead. Castro cut the lead to 11-10 with 1:37 to play and LMU had a 6-on-5 chance with five seconds left but couldn't score.

The Lions will have two weeks off before facing UC Santa Barbara at home on Mar. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
