FRESNO, Calif. – Loyola Marymount opens the 2018 Golden Coast Conference season with a 9-3 win over Fresno State on Saturday. No. 12 LMU (10-10, 1-0 GCC) evens its record and wins the first-meeting between the two programs, topping the No. 24 Bulldogs (2-10), 9-3.

The Lions scored all four goals by four different players in the opening quarter to take a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Hana Vilanova finished her first of three goals on the day with a 5-meter finish to open the scoring. Daniela Hernandez followed with a powerplay goal, followed by an even-strength goal by Katie Hungerford, and one more advantage goal by Morgan Molloy to close out the period.

After FSU scored first in the second, Vilanova responded with her second, taking the 5-1 advantage into the halftime intermission.

Coming out of the break, Abbey Grosse scored two goals in the third, with Vilanova extending the LMU lead to 8-1 with another in the final minute of the period.

Fresno State scored two of the three goals in the final quarter, sandwiching them around Molloy’s second of the game.

Claire Wright made nine saves and only allowed the three goals in her 32 minutes in goal.

LMU will look to remain unbeaten in conference-play this Friday with a 4 p.m. matchup at fellow GCC unbeaten, San Diego State (5-8, 1-0 GCC). That will mark the final road game before the team’s home debut for the LMU Invitational March 16 and 17.
