LMU Dispatches UC Irvine For Sixth Straight

Los Angeles, CA (March 10) - Playing in their first home game in six games, the Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team had no problem as they knocked off 16th-ranked UC Irvine, 8-4, at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions win their sixth straight game as they improve to 10-3 on the season. Senior Teresa Guidi earns her first hat-trick of the season to lead the Lions. The Anteaters fall to 5-12 on the season as they were led by Erica Horman with a pair of goals.
After junior Jessica Conner gave the Lions a quick 1-0 lead just over a minute into the contest, the Anteaters would score two straight to take a 2-1 lead. Horman would score an even-strength tally with 3:41 remaining in the first frame and Michelle Carey would give UCI a one-goal lead with 2:42 remaining with a man-advantage.
The Lions would then take the lead for good on three straight to end the first frame and start the second. The Lions would score four goals to UCI's one in the second frame to take a commanding 6-3 lead at the half. Guidi would end the first frame with a goal 1:39 remaining and then Conner would score her second just 28 seconds into the second to give LMU the lead for good.
Guidi would score again with 4:06 remaining in the second for a 4-2 edge. Horman would cut the lead to one with 3:40 remaining on the man-advantage. Sophomore Stacia Peterson and Guidi would cap the scoring in the first half for the three-goal lead at the break.
Senior Neisha Hoagland would score the only goal in the third and senior Devon Wright would add to the Lions lead in the fourth. Aleah Amr would close the scoring in the fourth with another man-advantage goal.
The Lions will host 19th-ranked Princeton on Wednesday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m.
