LOS ANGELES -LMU women's water polo earned their second straight Golden Coast Conference victory, using a strong fourth quarter to claim a 9-7 win over Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon at Burns Aquatics Center during Senior Day.
Playing in their final regular season home games, senior Kiara Cerda, Alexandra Honny, Erin Manke, and Kassandra Smith were sent off in style as Honny and Beck each scored three goals to pace the Lions to 17-9 on the season and 4-0 in the GCC.
It was another tight conference match-up, as the game featured four lead changes and four ties. Santa Clara took early leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but LMU closed the first quarter with back-to-back goals, including Kingsley Hill's with just four seconds left.
Both teams would score in the second quarter and LMU would lead 4-3 at the break.
Santa Clara would look to take control, scoring the first three goals of the second half - all three by Kaitlin Murphy at two-meters - taking a 6-4 lead with 4:13 to play in the third quarter.
However, the Lions got goals from Beck and Ivana Castro to close the quarter, tying the game at 6-6 heading into the final frame.
Bridgette Alvarez would give the Lions the lead for good, scoring with 4:02 to play to make it 7-6. Beck would then score just 30 seconds later on a 6-on-5 for a key two-goal, 8-6 lead.
Elle Surber would score her second for the Broncos to cut the lead to 8-7 with 3:14 to play. However, Beck answered at 1:47 for the final score.
The Lions will head to San Diego State to take on the Aztecs on Saturday, April 4.
