STOCKTON, Calif. - Trailing 7-5 at the half, No. 3 seed LMU used a six-goal run to start the third quarter to push themselves to a 13-10 win over No. 6 seed Santa Clara in the first game of the 2015 Golden Coast Conference Championships at Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton, Calif.

Twelve of the Lions' 13 goals came from their all-conference performers, including Senior Mackenzie Beck (SR/Mission Viejo, CA) and junior Ivana Castro (JR/Commerce, CA) with five goals each as the Lions improve to 20-11 on the season and advance to Friday's first semifinal against 15th-ranked and host Pacific at 1:30 pm. Elizabeth Anderson (JR/Palo Alto, CA) scored four goals for the Broncos.

"Our halftime adjustments were big," said Head Coach Kyle Witt. "Defense was a key in the game. Once we made adjustments and got in the right position defensively, we were good to go. Congratulations to Santa Clara for a solid game."

It is the 15th straight season the women's water polo program has hit 20 wins.

"Our senior leadership and experience in a championship situation really showed," said Witt. "Ivana and Beck really stepped up and showed their composure in a tournament environment."

Both teams came out firing to start the game as the game sat at 4-4 after the first quarter. Each team scored to start the second to make it 5-5.

LMU then wasted little time to trim the lead with Laura Lopez (SR/Commerce, CA) scoring just 20 seconds into the quarter. The Lions the drew an exclusion and got a goal from Castro to tie the game. Castro then game the Lions the lead for good on a 6-on-5 two possessions later. Castro and Beck would alternate goals to make it 11-7 before the Broncos (14-14) answered.

The Lions advance to their 16th straight conference title game, making 14 straight in the Western Water Polo Association before joining the GCC in 2014. They won the inaugural title a year ago and return to the semifinals again this season.
