Lions Advance, Get Win No. 20

LOS ANGELES -For the 14th straight season, the LMU women's water polo program has hit 20 wins, getting to that marker thanks to a 19-6 win over Fresno Pacific in the first round of the 2014 Golden Coast Conference Championships at the Burns Aquatics Center on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions improve to 20-11 overall and advance to the semifinals of the GCC Championships on Friday, Apr. 25 at 1 pm. The Lions will take on 17th-ranked Santa Clara, who defeated Azusa Pacific, 10-8.
The Lions have reached the semifinals of their conference tournament every year since 2001 and did it this season by scoring the game's first seven goals. Senior Alexandra Honny had six goals for the eighth time in her career. Five other Lions were in double figure scoring, including Erin Byrne with three goals.
The GCC Championships continue Friday starting with the consolation play-in game between Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific at 11:30 am. After the Lions and Broncos in the first semifinal, top-seed San Diego State will take on No. 5 seed Pacific, who defeated California Baptist, 11-7.
