LA JOLLA, Calif. - The seventh-ranked LMU women's water polo team earned a 13-5 win over Cal State East Bay in the second semifinal of the 2012 Western Water Polo Association Women's Championships at Canyonview Aquatic Center on Saturday.

With the victory, the Lions advance to their 12th straight WWPA title game where they will face host and second-seed UC San Diego for the third straight season. The Lions won defeated the Tritons in 2010 but fell to them a year ago. The Lions improve to 19-9 on the season and 12-0 against the WWPA.

For the second straight time, the Lions used solid defense in the first half to jump out to an early lead. Senior goalie Elise Ponce allowed just her first first-half goal but was backed up with five goals by the Lions' offense for a 5-1 halftime lead.

The Lions' defense has allowed just nine goals in the first two games.

And like the quarterfinals, the Lions' offense took off in the second half, scoring eight goals, four in each quarter.

Junior Erin Manke had four goals while sophomore Alexandra Honny moved into third all-time with three more goals, giving her 76 on the season. Freshman Mackenzie Beck added a pair of goals.
