LOS ANGELES -- The 2013 college water polo season is underway, and Lions' All-Access continues its Inside the Lions Spotlight on this year's LMU women's water polo team. As the season progresses, the Spotlight takes a look at the 13 newcomers on the roster, starting with freshman goalie Claire Wright.
Choosing the sport of water polo in Canada, the true freshman Wright played with her older sister in club water polo and found herself playing in goal. As she learned she was pretty good at it, she continued to listen to her sister and finds herself playing the position in college and within the Canadian national team system.
Wright, who opened her college career posting just the fourth shutout in program history, making seven saves behind the Lions tough defense, is one of 10 true freshman and three transfers on this year's eight-ranked Lions' team. Listen to the entire interview on Lions' All-Access.
The Lions will travel to the UC Santa Barbara Winer Invitational on Jan. 25-27, opening with fifth-ranked Arizona State on Friday at 6 p.m. They will then face Azusa Pacific (11:50 am) and Santa Clara (4:50 pm) on Saturday, followed by Pacific (8 am) and top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Stanford (12:40 pm) on Sunday.
