LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount’s Hana Vilanova has been named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday. This is the first time a Lion has won the awarded this season, and Vilanova’s second time receiving the recognition after earning GCC Co-Player of the Week on March 23, 2017.

The LMU junior scored a team-high 10 goals this weekend in the UCSD Invitational to help guide the Lions to a 3-1 record at the tournament, earning her GCC Player of the Week honors. Scoring in every game over the weekend, Vilanova's highlight was her five-goal performance to force overtime against the 10th-ranked Aggies. No other Lion had more than seven goals as LMU went 3-1 in the tournament, beating two teams ranked higher in the process (#12 Indiana and #13 UCSB).

With the success at the UCSD Triton Invitational, the Lions jumped to No. 11 in this week's national poll. The rise from T-19 up eight positions was the largest leap in women’s varsity water polo this past week.

LMU is off this weekend, but returns to action at the UC Irvine Invitational on Feb. 23 and 24.
