LMU Invite To Feature Top Match-ups

LOS ANGELES -This Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, the women's water polo team will host the 13th Annual ZUMO LMU Invitational at the Burns Aquatics Center. The eight-team, 16-game tournament will feature a top-10 match-up on the first day as the eighth-ranked Lions will take on 10th-ranked Princeton.

Lions Keep Rollin To Tourney Title
The LMU women's water polo continued their impressive play to open the 2010 season with a sweep on the final day of the UC San Diego Triton Invitational on Sunday, defeating 11th-ranked UC Irvine, 11-5, and 13th-ranked Hartwick, 12-7, to claim the tournament title and start the season a perfect 4-0.

Big Win Caps Defensive Sweep
Defense continued to carry the LMU women's water polo team at the 2013 LMU Invitational, earning another pair of victories, including an impressive 7-5 win over No. 12 Princeton in the tournament finale on Saturday at the Burns Aquatics Center.

Lions Get No. 13
LMU women's water polo one-upped Brown in every quarter to earn an 11-7 win in non-conference action at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon. The Lions have won 13 straight, equalling a program record they set in 2003 and 2005, and have improved to 18-2 on the year.

Three-Quarter Defense Claims Win
After allowing two goals on eight shots in the first quarter, seventh-ranked LMU and its defense went to shutdown mode, allowing no goals and just eight shots the final three quarters to earn a 12-2 win over Pomona-Pitzer in the consolation semifinal of the 2012 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Alexandra Honny moved to second all-time in LMU history with 255 goals, scoring 11 last week as to earn Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week honors. Honny has a team-best 48 goals as the Lions host Hartwick at 9:15 am, followed by the Tigers at 4:45 pm. Then on Saturday, they will face Pomona-Pitzer at 11:45 am, then Brown to close the tournament at 4:45 pm.

The tournament is presented by the Lions Athletic Fund with all ticket proceeds going to benefit the women's water polo program. To purchase tickets and to see the full schedule, CLICK HERE.

Tournament action begins at 8 am each day. The Lions enter the tournament at 13-7 overall. Sophomore Ivana Castro is second on the team with 32 goals and Erin Manke leads the team with 26 assists.
