LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Alexandra Honny continues to have a break-out second season for the seventh-ranked LMU women's water polo team, earning her second Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honor after leading the Lions to a sweep in four games at the Roadrunner Invitational III last weekend.
With 17 goals in four games, Honny has been named the KAP7 WWPA Player of the Week for April 4.
She had her second six-goal performance of the season in an impressive 14-6 win over CSU Bakersfield on Sunday. She added four goals against both Santa Clara and Cal State San Bernardino for an eight-goal Saturday. She then added three goals to help hold off Colorado State for a nine-goal Sunday. She also had seven asssists, seven kickouts drawn, 10 steals and two field blocks.
She now leads the team in goals with 57 and steals with 41.
Honny is just the second player in program history to have two six-goal games in her career, joining Nicole Hughes who scored six or more goals five times in her career. Honny's goals total so far this season is tied with teammate Kimberly Benedetti's total from the 2010 and assistant coach Cara Colton's 57 in 2007.
The 4-0 weekend against WWPA foes last weekend pushed the Lions' record to 10-0 in conference play and 15-8 overall. The Lions are off until Sunday, April 15 when they host top-ranked UCLA at the Burns Aquatics Center at 12 noon.
