Santa Clara Cruises to Quarterfinals

Los Angeles, CA -- The fifth-seeded Santa Clara Broncos earned a 9-1 win over No. 12 Chapman in the first game of the 2008 Western Water Polo Association Women's Water Polo Championship at Loyola Marymount on Friday morning. The win moves the Broncos to the quarterfinals against No. 4 Cal State Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m. today. The Broncos jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed as they improve to 18-11 on the season and 14-6 against WWPA competition. Chapman falls to 10-17 on the season and 0-9 in the WWPA. They will face the loser of CS Monterey Bay and Colorado State on Saturday at 10 a.m. in game 10 of the tournament. Santa Clara scored five in the first quarter. Eight different Broncos scored, including a pair by Emily Bonk.
