LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's water polo team claimed their 10th conference championship by winning the inaugural Golden Coast Conference Championship, finishing the season 22-12 overall. It was the program's 14th straight 20-win season. And with it, fifth year head coach Kyle Witt has been named the GCC Coach of the Year.
Witt, who improved his record to 118-50 in five seasons at the helm of the Lions, earned his third title with the program, adding the GCC title to the Western Water Polo Association titles in 2010 and 2012. Witt was named the WWPA Coach of the Year in 2011.
LMU claimed the first GCC tournament title with a thrilling 10-9 sudden-death overtime victory against San Diego State at the Burns Aquatics Center on April 26. It is the program's 10th title since 2001.
In five seasons with the Lions, Witt has gone 48-3 all-time against conference opponents, going 5-1 this season in GCC play.
Witt completes the end of the year honors for the GCC, joining senior Alexandra Honny, who was named GCC Player of the Year. It is the fourth conference player of the year to be coached by Witt. Casey Flacks (2012), Kimberly Benedetti (2011) and Anne Scott (2010) claimed the WWPA top honors.
