2013 Schedule Features Top-Tier Match-ups
Women's water polo once again to face nation's best in 2013.

LOS ANGELES -- In establishing itself as one of the top programs each season, the LMU women's water polo team has made it a point to play the best each season. And 2013 will be no different as the Lions' announced the schedule for the upcoming season, which begins on Jan. 19.
"We pride ourselves in playing the best whenever we can," said Head Coach Kyle Witt. "And this season's schedule will once again feature games against about every team in the top-10 except for maybe one. A lot of the kids we get to play for us come here because they know they will get to play against the best."
The Lions', who finished ranked seventh last season, schedule for 2013 will feature head-to-head match-ups with the nation's best (as ranked from the 2012 final poll), including a pair of meetings with top-ranked and defending champion Stanford. The Lions will face the Cardinal in a neutral game at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Classic on Jan. 27 and then in a home date on April 14, the first trip to LMU for the Cardinal.
In addition, the Lions will host No. 2 USC on April 4, travel to No. 3 UCLA on April 12, face No. 4 Cal in Berkeley on April 7, play No. 5 Arizona State at the UCSB tournament on Jan. 25, travel to No. 6 UC Irvine on April 19, and host No. 10 Princeton in the final game of the LMU Invitational on Mar. 23.
The Lions will host and play in multiple tournament's this season, starting with the LMU Opening Weekend Tournament, featuring No. 16 UC Santa Barbara, No. 19 Cal Baptist and fellow Western Water Polo Association foe Cal State San Bernardino.
The annual LMU Invitational will run March 22-23 at the Burns Center and will feature CSUSB, Whittier, Cal State Monterey Bay, Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay, Princeton and the Lions.
In addition to Arizona State and Stanford at the UCSB Winter Classic, the Lions will face Azusa Pacific, Santa Clara and Pacific.
Other tournaments for the Lions include the UCSD Triton Invitational (Feb. 9-10), the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational (Feb. 23-24) and the Santa Clara Bronco (Apr. 6).
After opening at home on Jan. 19 in the Opening Tournament, the Lions will then host UC Santa Barbara on March 14, Colorado and CSUSB on March 16. Following the LMU Invite, the Lions will host the Trojans on April 4, the Cardinal on April 14 and then finish the season at home with Occidental on April 20.
The 2013 WWPA Championships will then take place at Santa Clara on April 26-28, with the NCAA Championships taking place in Boston, Mass., on May 10-12.
