Jan. 29, 2013

BURBANK, Calif. In a room filled with the likes of Vin Scully, Don Ohlmeyer, Larry Merchant, Bob Miller and numerous other sports broadcasting greats, LMU sophomore Chase Lio was awarded as the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Tom Harmon/Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship recipient for 2013, Monday at the Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank.

The SCSB association annually selects an undergraduate college student who is pursuing a career in radio, television or internet broadcasting. This year's scholarship was in the amount of $5,000.

Lio, an economics major who is also minoring in communication studies, has served as a student worker for the LMU Athletics media services department for a year-and-a-half. After serving as a play-by-play and color commentator for the Lions' web streams of men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball last year, Lio took over as the women's basketball play-by-play broadcaster for the 2013-13 season.
