Annual fundraiser for LionsFund sets new level as record 227 take the course at Pacific Palms.
June 6, 2011
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the last 18 years, LMU Athletics has hosted its annual Golf Classic to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships. Year 18 was one for the record books. Friday, May 20 was truly a memorable day as 227 players took the Pacific Palms Golf Resort course for the 2011 LionsFund Golf Classic and Dinner Auction, shattering the previous record of 208.
In addition, 32 different sponsors joined in support of the tournament, setting further records in support for raising funds for LMU's more than 400 student-athletes.
"This success is a huge credit to each and every person involved in every way for this year's event," said Dr. Bill Husak, LMU Athletics Director. "From helping to register players, sign up foursomes and sponsors, collecting auction items, helping with organization leading up to the event, promoting it to friends and potential players, staffing on the day of the tournament, organizing student-athletes to be there meeting our attendees, and in so many more ways - each and every one of these things helped add up to make the tournament the all-around first-class event that it was this year, and everybody involved can be excited and proud of its success."
A few highlights from the 18th Annual LionsFund Golf Classic and Dinner Auction:
· Projected to hit an all-time record in funds raised
· 227 players this year was the highest in tournament history, running past the 208 back in 2007 and 25% more than the 183 from just two years ago.
· 32 total sponsors at all levels also beats our previous record from last year.
· Silent Auction proceeds were up 60% from the silent auction last year and another all-time record.
"This and so many other successes are a huge credit to everybody who came out to volunteer, staff, play, and be a part of the event, from annual giving staff to alumni volunteers, and the athletics coaches and student-athletes who spent part or all of the day out there to make for a great experience for all our golfers," said Husak.
