LOS ANGELES - The Loyola Marymount University Athletics' 2013 Hall of Fame Class has been announced by the LMU Athletic Department and will feature seven individuals and one team.
The Hall of Fame banquet will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the Burns Back Court. Additional festivities that day will include a Hall of Fame LionsFund Reception and Hall of Fame Class of 2013 recognition at halftime of the LMU men's basketball game versus BYU.
The 2013 class of inductees includes Al Gersten, Jr. (benefactor), Danielle Kaminaka (softball, 2003-05), Kealani Kimball (volleyball, 2000-04), John R. Lind, Sr. (men's crew coach, 1962-75), Endre Rex-Kiss (men's water polo, 2002-06), Tom Salvino (men's basketball, 1953-56), Lynn Scott (women's tennis, 1976-77), and the 2004 women's water polo team.
Al Gersten, Jr., has been a lifelong benefactor of LMU Athletics and is the son of Al Gersten, Sr. - the namesake of Gersten Pavilion, the home for LMU men's and women's basketball and volleyball.
Kaminaka was a three-time first team All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference selection and also earned PCSC Player of the Year honors once while leading the Lions to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2005.
Kimball was a three-time first team All-West Coast Conference selection, leading her squad to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
Lind, considered the "founding father" of LMU rowing by his alumni, brought the program into contention on the West Coast and spearheaded the creation of the program's first boathouse.
Rex-Kiss remains the second leading scorer in program history and was a three-time All-American.
Salvino, who is being inducted posthumously, averaged 11 points per game during his three-year career (freshmen could not compete on the varsity team). He was also named to the All-WCC second team his senior year, which was the first year of WCC men's basketball competition.
Scott was the Lions' #1 singles and doubles player during her two seasons, leading LMU to back-to-back Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles.
Rounding out the class is the 2004 women's water polo team, which concluded its season as the national runner-up. They remain the only team in LMU Athletics' history to compete in an NCAA Championship game.
